September Goals

I feel like I wrote my August goals post, blinked, and now I’m writing this one. What in the world happened to August? Summer came to a screeching halt and real life kicked back in, that’s what. The last few weeks have been nothing short of chaotic, but I’ve been enjoying it since so much of the chaos consisted of time with friends. However, I am greatly looking forward to things slowing back down and settling back into a routine soon.

Sadly my August goals didn’t fare too well since I wasn’t prepared for what the month turned out to be, but I did make some progress and I’m happy with that.

Here are my August goals and their results:

+ Make my office usable again

Sadly my office is not in a truly usable state at the moment, but I did manage to clean up and organize a large amount of stuff. The reason this goal got pushed aside is mainly due to the fact that I’ve decided that buying new furniture for the office needs to happen. And if I’m going to put new furniture in there I should go ahead and take the opportunity to paint the walls. And thus the whole thing became a much bigger project and I’m putting off until October-ish. I have picked out what I want from Ikea already though!

+ Take my DSLR out for some experimenting

I have played with my DSLR on multiple occasions, including using my newly purchased remote which I’m quite excited about. I did not however get to go out with my photographer friend and learn from them, but I’m thinking that might be more enjoyable to do when the weather is cooler anyway. It’s 108 degrees in Phoenix right now for those of you who are blissfully enjoying the start of Fall elsewhere.

+ Pack my lunch at least 3 workdays a week

Check! I brought a salad on most days and oftentimes other stuff like cheese and cold cuts as well. Although sadly I ate Cheez-Its and a Mountain Dew for lunch on Tuesday because I failed to go to the store after getting back late from my Labor Day trip so I had nothing to bring to work that first day. But I’m back on track now!

+ Pray with diligence

I didn’t do this as well as I would have liked, but I am happy that I focused on it more this month and it’s something that I’m going to continue to work on in the long run. I’m going to try something new with this in September (see below).

+ Organize and backup all of the pictures that are floating around on my computer

I’m so excited to say that this is complete! I love knowing that everything is backed up and safe, plus I love how clean my desktop looks now!

+ Finalize and order my new granite countertops

The granite guys are coming to measure my kitchen on Friday and give me the final price. The only problem is that I need to make the final decision on which type of granite I want in order for everything to move forward after that and it’s scary to make the commitment.

+ Queue up some blog posts

I’ve been working on trying to write my blog posts in advance when I can. Sometimes posts need to go up immediately to make sense, but when possible I want to write them in advance and get them scheduled out so that I’m consistently posting twice a week.

+ Take at least one group class at the gym

I’ve failed miserably at working out this summer but I’m attempting to get back into the swing of things in that area. Once the weather gets a bit cooler I’ll hopefully get back to hiking, but in the meantime I’m going to try to get to the gym more. I tend to get a lot out of taking the group classes, so I’m going to make it a goal to go to one of those.

+ Write to my Compassion International child

I sponsor a child through Compassion International but rarely ever write to her. It’s pretty sad when I think about the fact that I should do so way more often but just keep forgetting to. I want to write her this month and send her some of the pictures from my recent trips.

+ Start each day off with this prayer: “Lord, give me an opportunity to show love to someone today”

I want to ask God to give me opportunities. I want to get better at loving people. I want to get better about asking God to show up and then expecting Him to.

Let’s see what September holds!
