An Afternoon in Washington DC

At the end of April I was in the DC area for Summit 2015 (the event I attend with my AWANA kiddos every year). For the last four years Summit has been in Chicago (during the middle of winter) but this year it was moved to Virginia and pushed back to April. I’m so glad it was!

I flew into and out of DCA so I gladly took the opportunity to spend a few hours wondering around the National Mall. Although I’ve been there numerous times before this was my first time walking around with my DSLR. It also happened to be a perfectly gorgeous day with fluffy clouds, a beautiful blue sky, and plush green grass. Sadly, no cherry blossoms were left by the time I got there but that didn’t change how beautiful the day was.

I hope you enjoy some of these pictures I took on that splendid afternoon!

PS: Finding cheap, convenient parking near the National Mall is really easy to do on a Sunday afternoon! Much, much easier than during the week. I Googled for a website with a map of parking garages and picked one from there and had no issues.

Beautiful photos Mandy! What type of DSLR and lens do you use?

    • Hey Bailey! Sorry for the delay with my response. I have a Nikon D7000 and I absolutely love it. I usually shoot with a 18-140 lens but on this trip I actually had a 18-55 lens (the second version that’s more compact than the one that comes as a kit lens). I’m really happy with how both lenses perform. What kind of camera do you use? =)

  • Great post! The National Mall is the perfect place to go if you only have a couple of hours. Hope you get a chance to go back soon. I was lucky and spent six months there back in college.

    • Spending six months there would be so cool! I always enjoy whatever time I can get there =)

  • Beautiful photos!! I grew up visiting DC on field trips and over long weekends. I just love that you can spend several days there seeing so much for free!

    • It’s one of my favorite cities for so many reasons but the fact that so many things are free is one of the best perks! =)
